Miss California
I have never been drunk, nor have I ever been to a club or disco, but last night at Andrzej's birthday party I experienced what I can only refer to as "vegetarian" intoxication and clubbin'.
Originally, I had not been so keen on going to Andrzej's party for many good reasons. This was the second in a series of three parties he would be having to celebrate his 38th birthday which had happened three months ago. I, as often is the case, would rather just be in my flat, listening to some tunes, studying my Polish, writing poetry, or just moping. Nevertheless, Monika, I, and two birthday cakes more or less willingly got into his car when he came to pick us up around 5:15.
The party started out fairly normal: TV, music, food, the birthday cake, etc. Then around 9 when the first couple left, something crazy happened. Andrzej turned up the radio, moved out the coffee table, and informed us all we are going to dance. "You do dance, don't you" Staś asked, as he too started shaking his booty around the living room. DUDE! Was I in the twilight zone or what? Here were two, fully grown men doing a groove thing that I don't believe has been on a dance floor for the last 15 years, dangerously unaware how silly they looked! The only time I have ever danced in public IN MY LIFE was at my aunt's wedding last December, and that was with my sisters. I was planning on just blending in with the leather arm chair for the evening... that is until "She's Miss California" came on. I looked at Andrzej, Staś, Viktor and Renata who, in their ignorant bliss, were having a great time. So why not me too? Monika and I then joined in with what continued to be a great night of dancing and lots of laughs until after midnight when we all were quite pooped- well all except for Andrzej who still had his sunglasses on and was doing his Frankenstein type moves which is what it kind of boiled down to. Just jumping around, burning off the birthday cake, singing, and moving like no one in the whole world was watching- and no one was watching was the great thing, because we were all too busy laughing.
