Murphy's Law
Sometimes even being American cannot provide me with enough optimism to meet the seemingly negative fates I meet almost everday. Let's take last night for example. There was no water, electricity was on and off, and the one evening I didn't have classes and could spend catching up on email, the internet at the seminary was not working at all. So this morning I am at my second internet cafe, because the internet at the first one didn't work. After ten months, I am starting to tire of trying to cheer myself up by saying "it could be worse" because it seems like things just get worse whenever I say that!!!!
Nevertheless, I still am in love with Poland. In the last week many exciting things have happened starting with last Saturday night when I proved I was indeed the tongue-master/best kisser by tying a cherry stem into a knot using only my mouth. This was at TGI Friday's in Warsaw with Mike the American, Ania, Lukasz, Marta, and Hunter, Mike's Alabama bud who returned to America the day after. I could devot a whole blog to Hunter alone (whose name is to be said in a husky and seductive voice) but instead will just say how charming and sweet he was to speak with, pack with, and have tequilla and beer with... I mean him drinking, not me!!!
The weather was warm and sunny in the beginning of the week making my trips to the Academy in Warsaw very enjoyable. However Murphy's law struck again and now that I have a few days off for Easter it has been rainy and cold. The only sunshine I have is Rochelle's company, as she is with me for a few days to make changes to her airline ticket here in Warsaw, and to head to Częstochowa for the Music Festival tomorrow with me, Monika, and about a million other Polish people.
So Rochelle and I are off to get some lunch at this really sweet vegetarian restaurant on Nowy Świat (New World Street) after which we will change her plane ticket, run home in time for our 5 o'clock Bible Study, and then go to hear Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" with my favorite trio of students, the Twins and Krzysiu! Tomorrow it is an early start to Częstochowa at 6 a.m., and after that has yet to be created, though for sure it will require fighting off Murphy's Law in all activities!
