Dry Tuesday
Today is the last day of my Easter Holiday. I am proud to say I made it through "Wet Monday" without getting wet! This is a Poilsh tradition that originally was about purifying each other the day after Easter by sprinkling Holy Water or perfume on loved ones. Presently it is celebrated by 40 guys with buckets full of water waiting to drench you at the train station, on the road, and wherever else young men gather. I had wanted to go to Warsaw with Krzysiu, but we decided maybe a bike ride would be safer, and it was.
The trip to Częstochowa was also nice. I was right about the music being ho-hum except for a group of professionals that sang a selection of spirituals in English. I was moved to tears by their rendition of "Deep River", one of my all-time favorite spirituals. The meetings had a surprise ending for both the audience and myself because I was asked to sing!!! It was so last minute that Mariusz (friend and kick-butt guitar player) and I performed the first song with no practice. It went off well for the untrained ear however, so I won't complain.
After the meetings we headed up to Jasne Góra for a quick glimpse of the "Black Madonna" before heading home.
