The Long Weekend

It was a successful trip up north this weekend. Friday was a 5:40 a.m. train for Ania and I to Warsaw and then Malbork. Malbork is famous for its impressive castle built by the Teutonic Knights.

Sabbath morning we went to church and later spent the afternoon at a church picnic which took place in woodsy, national park. I had to laugh as the 20 or so people in attendance sat around roasting their turkey and beef sausages over the fire. Adventists are not so extreme here as in the States.

Sunday it rained most of the day, clearing up long enough for us to run to Fromburg to check out the castle there where Copernicus is from.

Then yesterday we spent the whole day in Gdansk. It was the national constitution day, so the city was buzzing with lots to do.

One of the points of the trip was to try and make an attempt to cross the boarder, which we did not do. I have now overstayed my visa. This worries me a bit, but hopefully I can cross by foot into Slovakia next weekend when Mike, myself, and maybe Krzysiu go to Zakopane. It's really only at the airport where the passport-stamper people try to give you a hard time about overstaying, so I am not too worried. I also hope to visit Auschwitz during the trip, so it will be another weekend action packed.
