Happy Days
Perhaps my last blog sounded too dramatic, since some of you all now have expressed concerns about me. Fear not. I am neither heart broken, or hurt, or worried about future prospects as a result of my friend “forsaking all others.” He forsook me long ago. It’s about time I completely forsook him as well. It’s just hard to be a Porawski. When we got it bad, it’s pretty much for life. My Polish father still claims to love my mother, and they have been divorced for 18 years now, and she treats him like crap. So you can see how faithful we are.
I can’t believe that it is almost Christmas!! Tomorrow my sisters and I are driving down to my parents, about a two and a half hour drive. Christmas Eve as the first evening star is in the sky (it should be this way, but in reality it will be much, much later) my Polish Dad and I will be with Ciocia Helen celebrating Wigilia. I wonder what strange fish concoctions we will be served this year. Two years ago I vowed never to ear Herring again, but since then have come to really love fish, so we will see what happens this year.
But the time spent in Wyalusing has truly proven golden. It is nice for my sisters and I to be together again, and with the very tree (my grandmother) which grew the bad apple (my mother) and the bad seed (youngest sister Vicky). For sure we got our spark from her. We’ve spent our days telling stories, looking at pictures, and laughing and laughing. I am not sure what my favorite story is- I love the ones of my mother’s first husband Kordy and my father fighting over her, nearly killing one another with their fists, and then my uncle Robert hitting Kordy over the head with a brick, almost killing him for real. There are stories of Pop’s wild temper and road rage, my favorite of which being when Pop got so angry at Mom-mom over who would take the car that day that he stole Lori’s bike and rode it 6 hours down the turnpike to work. Then there are stories that prove where I get my dim wit, such as when Mom-mom thought she could entertain Chloe while babysitting with a video Aunt Doris found lying around her assisted living center called “Babes in Toy land.” I hope I need not explain the shock she experienced in the opening credits, or why she made pop immediately take it out back and burn it.
Vicky really got on my nerves today while I was trying to work on my sermon for Sabbath. Here are some hilarious pictures of her out of revenge:
