Lost in Transit

Had I known the tourturous journey that laid ahead of me 61 hours ago when I left Poland, I probably would have gone back to bed and hid under my covers instead of going to the airport.

In brief, I didn't make it to Southern's graduation. I missed my connecting flight to Atlanta in Paris due to a 90 minute weather delay in Warsaw. Air France refused to put me up in a Hotel and the best solution they could offer me was the next flight to Atlanta leaving 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, an option which left me with a slight chance to make it to graduation, but none of the other appointments planned for that day. So I put myself up in a room for the night being very chummy with the shuttle bus driver along the way, only adventuring out for a lite din-din at a very charming little cafe-type place where I had spinach-nutmeg soup and some kind of cherry dessert. The next morning found further delays in Paris, both at the gate and on the plane where we sat for almost an hour and a half before taking off. We arrived in Atlanta around 4:45 p.m. I hoped to catch the 6 p.m. shuttle to Chattanooga which also didn't happen because I waited over an hour to collect my luggage from off to plane, get through customs, etc. I didn't arrive in Chattanooga until 10 where the only comfort I had waiting for me with the beautiful face of Leon Mashchak.

The whole trip ordeal was heart breaking as time and time again my hopes were dashed and faith crushed. I think of how Joe says that we are persecuted by Satan daily and I wonder if there was any divine right or reason to what was allowed to happen to me. Perhaps I can understand now why some people just don't bother themselves to travel.

The only saving grace to the whole travel ordeal was a girl named Debbie who rode the shuttle with me from Atlanta to Chattanooga. Debbie and I quickly disovered that we have a lot in common: we are both soprano vocal music majors with degrees in performance, we both want to do our graduate work in musicology, we both have welsh korgies and we both are Christians just to name a few things. We gabbed to whole two hours on the shuttle about everything to relationships to music recomendations and the power of God. Debbie is totally awesome and once again, was the only positive thing about the whole trip.

After Lev picked me up and took me to his place, I was suprised by a visit from Aneta, Stefan, and Korben Rusek! It had been almost a year since I had seen Aneta who left Poland last January to continue her interupted life with Stefan. I didn't get much sleep, then ran around this morning trying to catch up with people like Jenny Spicer and the whole Cafeteria Crew. Twas nice- but too short.

Now my sister Patti and I are on the road with the Enevoldson clan making our way up to Pennsylvania. We hope to be there by midnight. I am really enjoying having a wireless internet connection on the road and blogging here on interstate 81 through Virgina.
